The House of Somaya is an Oregon-based spiritual organization and community deeply devoted to the ancient human practice of healing through sacrament, ceremony, community, and communion with the more-than-human world. We do not offer spiritual “services,” so much as we offer a path toward self actualization.
We believe that humans are the bridge between earth and heaven. Our spiritual framework exists to strengthen that bridge — not as a claim to human superiority, but as an acceptance of human responsibility. Members accept, practice and strengthen this responsibility through an embodied acknowledgement that there is a 1:1 relationship between our spiritual health and the wellbeing of this planet. Only when we ground our heartbeats into the heartbeat of this planet can we truly connect with our Creator.
We are committed to the doctrine of unity with all of life. We acknowledge that we are not separate from life — we are a part of life. And the presence of the Creator is inside all of humankind. We recognize that under all religion and spiritual philosophy is actually a unified spirit of belonging. And this is the heart of God, which sees no separation.
The House of Somaya path is not one of ascending out of the body. It is a path of descending into and through the body, in order to locate the body and self inside a non-dual experience with all of life, and life beyond life.
We approach our path with three connected territories: the ecological body, the human body, and the shared spirit body. The body is what allows us to work with both spirit and earth. The body is the sacred, sacramental lens by which we engage the conversation between heaven and earth.
When we make peace within ourselves, we make peace between heaven and earth. This is true self actualization.
The restoration of the human spirit must first begin with the restoration of our place in the ecological family of things. The way we pray is in action — first and foremost through the hands-on improvement of the ecological systems that sustain us. This is how we measure our spiritual progress: by the way we enhance the ecology around us.
The integration and harmonization of the human spirit is experienced through somatic-based prayer, and community-centered healing, that places wholeness of body, heart and mind at the center of the altar. We believe that each of us has our own inner healing wisdom, that can be accessed and felt through the territory of our bodies. We believe that this wisdom is the key to our personal internal liberation, and is the gateway of understanding ourselves as the bridge between earth and heaven.
The actualization of the human spirit is experienced through non-ordinary states of consciousness that reveal us to ourselves and re-establish our direct connection with Source.
We believe in the collective intelligence of “the many,” and that we are stronger together. We believe that the path to liberation is simultaneously individual and collective, and cannot be one or the other. It is in strengthening and healing our relationships, with human and non-human life, that we touch Creator most clearly.
We believe that our sacraments — whether movement, breath, or plant-based — are our change-agents, which strengthen our capacity to see and understand our place in the mind of our Creator. We all have a place in the mind of Creator.
We prioritize the center. In part, to remember that heaven and earth are not separate, but two halves of the same circle. Being a human bridge is the ongoing process of realizing that heaven and earth co-exist — as do masculine and feminine, pleasure and pain, “good” and “bad,” night and day, life and death. Our approach is both non-dual and dual: fully of this world of polarity and dichotomy, and also beyond it, where all polarity dissolves into Source.
We don’t wake up. We wake down.
The signature of Source is in everything.
The path to enlightenment is not to erase duality, but to become larger than our divisions.
Within our tradition, movement, breath, meditation and plant medicine is honored as sacraments we take to connect with our planet, our inner healing wisdom through our bodies, and with Source.
Our ministry offers spiritual, emotional and psychological initiation, a deeply intentional ceremonial container, and rigorous integration support to those called to this part of the path. Where a plant sacrament itself is received, it is administered in accordance with Oregon law, through licensed facilitation — ensuring both the safety of our congregants and the integrity of the traditions that came before us, and that we humbly hold inside our spiritual framework.
House of Somaya is developing a ministry training path for those called to serve this work more deeply — as ceremonial guides, spiritual companions, and stewards of this doctrine within their own communities.
This training is rooted in our foundational beliefs: how to walk the bridge between earth and heaven, the wisdom of waking down into the body, and how to live inside the sacred center where all polarities dissolve into Source. It is a path for those who feel called not only to receive this medicine, but to help hold space for others to do the same.
Whether you are called to walk this path as a congregant, or to sustain it through your generosity, there is a place for you here.
